Maybe it was 1998? Or 99? Either way, my gut pain took me to the Drs office for the first visit of what would be many. Endometriosis. What in the world? No cure then. Not really a "cure" now either, at least not a palatable one. Its a lifer too. So that makes it even more "special". But, in my opinion, thats just life. You get both glitter and rotten eggs thrown in your face. You figure it out.
Number 1, and most important, it is my belief that there is practically always a loophole solution that just hasn't been found yet, you just need to be diligent and do your homework. And, Number 2, it is my belief that no-one will work harder to help me find my way than myself.
All that led me to articles detailing (what was groundbreaking then) how the use of harsh chemical pesticides in modern-day, mega farming, has caused our bodies, mainly our internal organs, some very serious injury and disease. It seemed like it made sense to me: A chemical designed to kill a bug that ate it might indeed cause me harm, and then, little by little, cause me great harm. But this was all new information and I felt quite like a rogue conspiracy theorist even reading and considering this as a possibility.
But, since the medical world had no idea what to do for my condition at that time, I decided to try switching to an all organic way of life. It helped me. My body started being and feeling happy again. It thanked me by producing two more babies after my diagnosis and very grim prognosis regarding my fertility due to the endometriosis. (That's really unheard of!!) They gave me a 1% chance or less of every being able to conceive, and I had 2 more after that!
Fast forward: Soil is grotesquely depleted from mass farming of minimal varieties of food. Stripped of nutrients. I think we all heard the (what seems redundant at this point) message of the current condition of our food industry. The soil. The GMOs. The pesticides. The exorbitant costs of eating organic (and now, even conventional) food.
The crack in the system.
So we bought a farm and we started growing our own. We keep our soil optimal and use very minimal, if any, ORGANIC and NATURAL pest deterrents. Nothing boiled up in some chemistry lab. We use things like, apple cider vinegar, netting, marigolds, sacrificial plants, and diatomaceous earth to ward off hungry little bugs.
We feel so blessed to be able to eat a farm to table diet. Every day it makes us more aware of how amazing this world is, and how healing it can be for us.
I lift my fork and I feel safe now. I don't have that nagging little fear that I'm slowly poisoning myself with beautiful fruit dipped in a chemical that makes a bugs stomach literally explode!
If you do anything in this life, eat real food! And if you can't grow your own, find a homestead or a small farmer nearby to buy from. I promise, it is worth it!
